Flyfish Ireland offers a unique style of trip. It is not a "tour" since we don't pack our grips and gear each morning and travel to a new location. Rather this is a true "holiday", in which you stay in one place and "get acquainted", not just with the others on the holiday, but with the local folks.
We are centered in Ardara, a town on the Donegal seacoast, in the northwest of Ireland. From there we are 5 minutes to 2 hours from the best fishing, scenery, shopping, and cultural venues in our spectacular, uncrowded, and unspoiled corner of Ireland's most northern province.
Our area is prime for fishing for Atlantic Salmon. There are many rivers within easy driving of Ardara, starting with the Owenea River, just on the northern outskirts of Ardara town.
Also frequently fished by our guests is the Glen River on
the Glencolumcille peninsula, just 20 minutes from Ardara. Tom Browne (the
lad, not his father) took this 25 lb'r in the Glen River in 2001. It
was one of 370 salmon caught in 2001.
The Glen Fishery, under the control of the Slieve League Anglers Association, is comprised of the main stem of the Glen River and three other rivers and eight loughs, of which two can have salmon as well as brown trout. Sea trout are also in this fishery.
Flyfish Ireland strongly encourages live release of all salmon.
Each two people get a car, included in the trip, so everyone has the freedom to roam, fish, tour, shop, hillwalk, or pubcrawl whenever the mood strikes. You must be able and willing to drive yourself from Dublin Airport to the County Donegal and then about the countryside where your fancy takes you.
Of course, you are not bound to stay with the group. You may take your car and travel anywhere in Ireland that you wish. At any time during our two-week stay. For as long or as far as you choose.
About the length of our trips:
Our 10-day trip actually has but 6 days available for fishing, as two days are spent on travel each way between the US and Donegal. Likewise, our 15-day trip has 11 days available for fishing.
Our Donegal coastal rivers need a rain to bring fresh salmon in on the spate. Of the days available for fishing, the rivers may not be in spate every day, thus not every day may be ideal for salmon fishing. We do most of our trout fishing on these days when the spate is not right for salmon. In the past we have booked special, shorter length trips on a group's request, but afterwards the group wished they had booked a longer trip. We will book special trips, however, of any length for a party of six to ten people. We also book special trips at other times in the fishing year.
NON-FISHING ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES
Often our fishing guests bring along spouses or others who does not care to fish. We have myriad and varied activities for them to engage themselves whilst their partners fish.

Our stay in Donegal is in our first class B+B, with full Irish breakfast. It is in the country, about a 2 minute drive from Ardara town and 5 minutes from our primary river, the Owenea River.
On the last night of our stay in Ireland we lodge at the Dublin airport. After returning rental cars, we can taxi into the city centre area known as Temple Bar for a wild night in Dublin city.
