Fishing in Ireland is
different from fishing in the United States in several ways. Ireland is divided into areas managed by
regional fisheries boards.
While a license from the Regional Fisheries Board is necessary, one usually must also purchase a "beat ticket" or "river ticket" for each day, because the fisheries are privately owned or leased.
The ticket costs vary by area, depending on the river or lough to be fished and species to be pursued, be it Atlantic salmon or seatrout in the rivers or native resident brown trout in the rivers and loughs. Ticket prices are surprisingly reasonable, however.
Flyfish Ireland strongly encourages live release of all salmon in order to ensure the propagation for future generations of this magnificent wild fish native to our Irish rivers.
