BALLYLIFFIN GOLF CLUB

Nick Faldo described the Old Links as the most natural golf course he had ever seen. It is a classically old fashioned links. The principle architect of the links was, of course, Mother Nature.
All around are dramatic hills and mountains, with magnificent views of the bay and the ocean. Extraordinary terrain. The only other boundary is the Atlantic Ocean.
Very difficult 3rd with a narrow fairway and sloping green. The 5th is an “interesting” par 3 known locally as “The Tank”.
The new course, Glashedy Links, opened in 1995, makes the most of a genuinely dramatic location. Designed by Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock, it has been laid out on a predominantly higher ground above and beyond the Old Links. Measuring over 7000 yards from the Championship tees with vast undulating greens, cavernous bunkers, and fairways that twist and roll beneath towering dunes, the challenge presented by Glashedy Links is almost as formidable as it is exhilarating.
Ruddy and Craddock said they would build one of the world’s finest and most adventurous links courses. They have succeeded. It is a vigourous test of golf, the wind running the full range from strong to very strong, and the greenskeepers letting the rough grow. You’ll need all the shots just to survive here, particularly the low runner that keeps below the level of the dunes. Hit it above them and the wind will send your ball flying in all directions and probably into a scrape or bunker.
